Maybe not as big as these stalks (which are as wide around as a hamburger patty), but there are a number of sections of bamboo forest in various areas of other states (where the pieces are as wide around as a hot dog).

There are some bamboo forest areas in NJ where the stalks are only as wide around as a hot dog……………..but hey bamboo is bamboo. I don’t know if you could make some of these things with pieces that are so narrow in circumference, but you could still use it to make some things.

Of course, with thinner bamboo you’d need more stalks to build something but then thinner stalks might be stronger so you’d be able to build sturdier shelters without tearing the bamboo to pieces anywhere near as much (for example, your bed could be pieces that are round instead of flat).

With thinner stalks of bamboo you’d need a bed of pine branches or something to take away the rough edges of the nodes that are every couple of feet in a stalk of bamboo, but you’d spend a lot less time tearing stalks of bamboo into different shapes.
